Professional Services

Specialty and Subspecialty Care

In addition to providing general obstetric and gynaecological services, I also offer subspecialist care for women with urogynecological conditions such as prolapse and incontinence.

I have a further special interest in laparoscopic surgery and chronic pelvic pain, including endometriosis. I have a focus on surgery for endometriosis and minimally invasive treatment for pelvic organ prolapse. I am part of both pelvic floor and endometriosis multidisciplinary teams delivering highly specialised care for these women. In obstetrics, I have a special interest in women with previously traumatic birth experiences.

Professional Societies

I am a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the UK, and I am registered as a subspecialist Urogynaecologist with the College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of South Africa. I am a member of the International Urogynaecology Association (IUGA), the International Continence Society (ICS), the American Association of Gynaecological Laparoscopy (AAGL), the South African Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (SASOG) and the International Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISUOG), and regularly attend local and international congresses.

Academic Interests

After completing my subspecialty training I remained involved in academia taking up a post as a part-time lecturer at the University of Pretoria where I ran the perineal clinic.

I have acted as an examiner for MBChB students at both the University of Pretoria and the University of the Witwatersrand and have presented research at international and local congresses. My current research interest is in the treatment of birth injuries.

About me

I grew up and studied in Pretoria. After concluding my undergraduate studies I completed my internship at the renowned Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, followed by community service in Grahamstown in the rural Eastern Cape.

Before further specialisation I worked for three years in emergency medicine including flight medicine, where I flew both fixed-wing repatriation missions as well as for the Netcare911 Helicopter Emergency Medical Services.

I then specialised at the University of the Witwatersrand and qualified as Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. I started my private practice under the tutelage of Dr Johan van der Wat at the Netcare Park Lane Hospital in 2018, and the following year began further subspecialty training at the University of Pretoria.

I live in Forest Town in Johannesburg with my wife, son Luc, daughter Freya and dogs Frosty and Sparky. In my spare time I love cycling, travel, cooking, reading, and spending time in the outdoors.
